Following a very successful season for both CR&S Baleares SL and most businesses in the resort, we have continued to experience growth. Sales and prospective buyers have exceeded those of previous low season months. Overall, the autumn months leading into winter were bright, with mostly pleasant sunshine, and we even spotted bathers in Santa Ponsa in December. However, the start of the new year has brought inclement weather, with significant rain and storms, leading many locals to feel like it has been an especially long winter. Easter arrived in early April, bringing a welcome influx of early visitors to Santa Ponsa and the island as a whole, which likely provided a positive boost to the hospitality and catering industry.
Celebration:
2026 is set to be a remarkable year for major events in Santa Ponsa. On May 1st, CR&S Baleares SL celebrated 30 years at our current business location, although the company originally began trading as CR&S about 10 years earlier. Additionally, the Mallorca Tennis Open Championship is commemorating the 10th anniversary of its inauguration. The tournament will feature numerous world-renowned stars, including Gabriella Sabatini, María Sharapova, Greg Rusedski, Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, and Nick Kyrgios, among others.

Local News:
The second phase of the new high street, part of an anticipated three phases, is nearing completion. While it was initially expected to be finished by April 30th, the current state may not be ideal for the upcoming season. We hope that another winter of work and inconvenience for local businesses, residents, and winter visitors will lead to a modern, attractive high street with easy access, good amenities, and efficient public transport links. There has been considerable debate locally regarding the removal of mature trees and shrubs, as well as the construction of a central reservation with steel panels. However, we remain optimistic that the area will take shape similarly to the stunning new Palma Seafront Promenade. Additionally, we hope that improvements have been made to the drainage system to prevent the usual flooding that occurs during heavy rainfall, particularly at the entrance to the public car park near our offices and at the junction between Splash Bar, Playa Golf Apartments, and Blockhouse Restaurant. In other news, the recent collapse of the dining room floor at the Rey Don Jaime Hotel resulted in its temporary closure for necessary repair work and a full structural survey. That work has now been completed, and the hotel has reopened. An employee has informed us that the safety of the structure has been approved by the architect.
Local Business Spotlight:
There’s big news for long-term business owners here in Santa Ponsa! Phil, Alison, and Alex are leaving 'Arthur's' after 23 years to start a new chapter on mainland Spain. Additionally, Sue and Andy have stepped away from 'Pie n’ Pint' after more than 15 years. It has been taken over by regular Santa Ponsa visitors Pamela and Garry, and is now renamed 'O'Rourkes.' For the 2026 season, there are several notable changes. A new Indian restaurant called ‘Maharaja’ has opened near the square, taking over the space previously occupied by Miami Restaurant. The former Schnitzel Bar, located opposite Verdemar, has been rebranded as ‘Cafeteria Montecarlo.’ There’s also a new tapas bar called ‘Mar y Monte’ that has opened opposite Hotel Santa Ponsa Park. On the main street, there are two new businesses: a Kebabish restaurant located 200-300 meters from our office, heading towards the small beach, and Many’s Ice Cream Parlour, which can be found opposite Pirates Hotel. Furthermore, the former Granada Restaurant, which struggled under new ownership for a year and was closed throughout the entire 2025 season, has been taken over in October. The new owners have been working hard to restore it to its former glory, including the anticipated return of its renowned rotisserie chicken, and it will now operate under the name ‘Steph & Phanies.’ While we cannot guarantee that these are the only changes, these are the ones we have noted so far.
Local Events:
The highly successful Palma International Boat Show concluded last weekend. Later this month, on May 23, the 'Binnisalem Fest' will return for its third year. This festival celebrates wine, music, and gastronomy.
